Barbados will sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) this evening at the conclusion of the first day of the Sustainable Energy for All Conference (SEFA).

Taking place at the Hilton Hotel, Needham’s Point in Barbados, the MOU will be signed ahead of tomorrow’s meeting of the Small Island Developing States SIDS/DOCK National Coordinators.?? SIDS/DOCK is a sustainable energy project which provides a mechanism for investment in renewable energy and energy efficiency in SIDS.?? It was pioneered by the Alliance of Small Island States and UNDP Barbados and the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States.????

At the opening of the SEFA this morning, Prime Minister Freundel Stuart said: "The existence of SIDS-DOCK Ltd. can only strengthen the SIDS voice in the international arena, becoming a model for cooperation in capacity-building in the sustainable energy e\sectors of SIDS, and, at the same time, providing a platform to continue the lobby for resources for developing countries."

Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Senator Maxine McClean will the sign the MOU this evening at 6:00 p.m. at the Hilton Hotel.

Scheduled for 7:00 p.m. this evening is a dinner presentation for the SIDS roll-out of the International Year of Sustainability for All.

Minister of Energy, Darcy Boyce will deliver the welcome remarks.?? Director-General of the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation and Chair of the UN-Energy, Kandeh Yumkella will give the feature remarks.??

Panellists for this session include Belize’s Minister of Energy, Science and Technology and Public Utilities, Joy Grant, as well as Executive Coordinator of the UNCSD Rio+20 Conference, Elizabeth Thompson.

Day two of the SEFA Conference will see The Barbados Declaration being signed at 9:00 a.m.?? Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Energy, Valerie Browne, will be in attendance.
