The Ministry of Education, Technological and Vocational Training recently received 200 face masks from the Barbados Vocational Training Board (BVTB), to aid in the fight against COVID-19.
The masks were made by students of the Garment Making programme who are based at the All Saints Skills Training Centre, Mile-and-A-Quarter, St. Peter.
The students made 800 masks for their peers and staff at the various BVTB centres, and decided to donate 200 of them to the Ministry of Education.
BVTB’s Director of Training, Henderson Thompson, had reached out to Demonstrator of the Garment Making class, Colette Lowe, to produce the cloth face masks.
Ms. Lowe, along with five of her trainees, Rianna Payne, Kizzie-Ann Prescod, Tricia Walcott, Virginia Thelius and Tequilla Hinds, embarked on the project, with the intent of making sure that trainees were better prepared on their return to classes.
She said it took the students about three weeks to make the face masks. “We would like to thank Ms. Joy Adamson, and Mr. Robert Folkes, the Deputy Permanent Secretary, for graciously receiving our contribution to this national effort to fight the COVID-19 pandemic,” Ms. Lowe stated.
