Barbadians will once again have an opportunity to learn a new skill, which they could turn into cash, under the Barbados Vocational Training Board’s (BVTB) Evening Programme.

Encouraging persons to sign up for one of 25 courses which begin in February, BVTB Public Relations Officer, Valerie Payne said that technical and vocational skills could help persons become more marketable in business and when looking for a job.

"Learning a skill is an investment especially for people who are looking for ways to earn extra money to meet their commitments and shortfalls.?? Acquiring a new skill empowers the individual because that man or woman now has an option to use what was learnt to earn extra cash or save money by doing the tasks, in either case, it is a win-win situation," the BVTB Public Relations Officer reasoned.

Noting that the courses under the BVTB Evening Programme were affordable compared to the amount of money persons could make in those fields, she explained that prices for the classes ranged from $175 to $325. Students are required to purchase training material and tools. Each course will be held once a week for two hours over a period of 12 weeks.??

Disclosing that the BVTB would be introducing Tailoring to its Evening Programme, she outlined: "There is something for everyone.?? We offer International Cooking, Auto-Mechanics, Make-up Artistry, Interior Decorating, House-Keeping, International Bar & Restaurant Services; Introduction to Computer Maintenance, Drapery & Soft Furnishings, Masonry and Barbering."

Other courses include Event Planning and Management, Cupboard Construction, Braiding and Weaving and Dress Making.

Persons may register for a course online at http://www.bvtb.gov.bb/ or contact the BVTB at 621-2882 for more information.

The sessions will be held at the BVTB Training Centres in All Saints, St. Peter; Culloden Road, St. Michael; Sayes Court, Christ Church; St. Luke’s, St. George; and Deacons Training Centre, Deacons, St. Michael.

Payments must be paid in full by February 1, as all undersubscribed classes will be dropped.
