New BVTB Director Henderson Thompson.????

The Barbados Vocational Training Board (BVTB) has a new Director. He is Henderson Thompson, who was appointed to the post on November 15 and is eagerly looking forward to his new role in helping to advance technical/vocational training here and in the region.

Mr. Thompson brings a wealth of experience in technical/vocational training to the job, having also worked as a Curriculum Development/Liaison Officer at the Samuel Jackman Prescod Polytechnic from 1997 to 2010.

In addition, he was employed as a Consultant/Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR) Specialist to the Government of Bermuda – National Training Board – from 2005 to 2008. He also filled the role of Project Coordinator for the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations for a Regional Needs Assessment Initiative and he was an Instructor Training Officer at the BVTB from 1996 to 1997.

His work experience is supported by extensive training in the technical/vocational area. ??Mr. Thompson has a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education, specialising in vocational education in developing countries. He was awarded the training Certification in Education and Further Education-Construction, during this programme.

The new Director also completed training fellowships at Humber College, Ontario and the British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT). ??

At Humber, he was trained as a Curriculum Specialist in Curriculum Design for Competency-based Education and Training. At BCIT, he completed a Training Fellowship in Programme Development in Higher Education Technical and Applied Programmes – competency-based and non competency-based approaches. He also obtained the Certificate in Programme Design through the Provincial Instructors Diploma Programme at the Vancouver Community College.

Mr. Thompson has always possessed a passion for working with the youth. He was an award-winning Senior Advisor with the Barbados Junior Achievement Foundation, and an advisor with the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme.??
