The contribution of the Barbados Vocational Training Board???s (BVTB) staff was officially recognised last Friday afternoon, when an appreciation ceremony was held at the National Union of Public Workers??? headquarters, Dalkeith Road, St. Michael.

In thanking staff members for their hard work over the years, Director of Training, Henderson Thompson said: ???Support is ???fundamental. We achieve little without support???It is a commitment to pushing ourselves and our organisation to achieve its true potential and creating the atmosphere that fosters progress from all our employees???Look with pride at what we???re helping to build. We???re progressing in spite of our many challenges.???

Noting that the staff???s contribution was ???the lifeblood of the organisation???, the BVTB Director encouraged those present to remember that every member of the organisation has a valuable role to play. ???Play it well, play it with all your integrity and with all your commitment,??? he noted, adding that he was pleased to show his appreciation to those who kept the organisation functioning.

A similar sentiment was shared by Deputy Permanent Secretary and BVTB board member, Yolande Howard, who noted that employee appreciation was a critical part of an entity???s success and also contributed to this nation???s human resource development.

???An organisation is not made of inanimate objects???it is made of people. Without people, equipment will not work. Without people, you will not get anything done. So functions such as these recognise the fact that having people is important???Often, we hear that our people are our greatest resource, so this event is one way to let people know this,??? she added.

While acknowledging that every staff member could not be recognised in this manner, she urged heads of departments, supervisors and managers to take time out every day to commend staff when they did well, ???for every small thing that they do???, and not to wait only for annual events to do so.

Persons were recognised for their contributions at events which included the BVTB Sports 2014 and this year???s WorldSkills competition.
