The Barbados Water Authority (BWA) has installed a new Re-Pumping Station at Trents, St. James, which was commissioned from today.  It will augment the supply of water to the northern parts of the island.

The process of commissioning the station will be done gradually over a period of two weeks to ensure the correct balancing of the relevant systems, and to minimize any impact to the public.

In addition, upgrades have been taking place at the Ionics Desalination Plant at Spring Garden, St. Michael.  At the Ionics Plant, the implementation of the upgrades is taking place in two phases and phase two is presently under way.

As a result, it is expected that a number of pumping stations and reservoirs will be impacted.  The BWA would, therefore, like the public to take the necessary steps to minimize the impact to them, by storing water to help with their water needs while the work is ongoing.

Although the commissioning and balancing project is anticipated to last two weeks, the timeline will be dependent on the identification and repair of any bursts which may occur.

Timely resolution of these issues will require the public’s assistance to report any bursts.  Reports may be made to cell number 836-2255 along with the customer service number of 434-4292.  These reports should allow BWA crews to conduct repairs as quickly as possible.

The public is reminded that once completed, this exercise should result in an improvement of the water supply to several customers in the northern parishes currently plagued by water outages.

The BWA thanks members of the public for their understanding and patience and apologizes for any inconvenience these disruptions in service may cause.
