Minister of the Environment, Dr. Denis Lowe??

The Barbados Water Authority (BWA) is undertaking a comprehensive review and overhaul of the island’s groundwater protection zoning policy and system, through a Zoning Study.

To this end, the Authority will be hosting a series of public consultations, scheduled to start next weekend.

Minister of the Environment, Dr. Denis Lowe, will deliver the feature address to launch the first consultation, on Sunday, January 24, beginning at 5:00 p.m. at the Princess Margaret Secondary School, Six Roads, St. Philip.?? It will especially target???? customers in the eastern zone.

The second session will take place on Tuesday, January 26, at 7:30 p.m., at the Belmont Methodist Church, My Lords Hill, St. Michael. Persons in the Belle and Central zones are asked to make a special effort to attend the consulation.

The final meeting is slated to be held on Thursday, January 28, also at 7:30 p.m. at the St. James Secondary School, Trents, St. James. Customers in the western and northern zones are especially being invited to attend this session.

The consultations seek to sensitise the public about the potential threats which pollution pose to the island’s groundwater.?? They will also provide an opportunity for persons to offer feedback on how the existing zoning policy affects their social and economic livelihood and to facilitate public participation in the decision-making process.????
