Minister of the Environment, Dr. Denis Lowe????

Barbadians will this weekend have an opportunity to learn more about a proposed new water zoning policy, when the Barbados Water Authority (BWA) kicks off a three-part series of public consultations.

The first will get under way on Sunday, January 24, at 5:00 p.m. at the Princess Margaret Secondary School.????Minister of the Environment, Dr. Denis Lowe, will deliver the feature address to launch this session, which especially targets customers in the eastern zone.

The second consultation will take place on Tuesday, January 26, at 7:30 p.m., at the Belmont Methodist Church, My Lords Hill, St. Michael. Persons in the Belle and Central zones are asked to make a special effort to attend.

Thursday, January 28, is the date earmarked for the final consultation, which will get under way at 7:30 p.m. at the St. James Secondary School, Trents, St. James. Customers in the western and northern zones are especially being targetted.

The consultations form an integral part of a Zoning Study that will provide the framework for a comprehensive review and overhaul of the island’s groundwater protection zoning policy and system.

They seek to sensitise the public about the potential threats which pollution poses to the island’s groundwater.??They will also provide an opportunity for persons to offer feedback on how the existing zoning policy affects their social and economic livelihood and to facilitate public participation in the decision-making process.??
