The Barbados Youth Service will be commencing its 2011 residential programme in less than a month with approximately 100 trainees.

That is the word from Minister of Family, Stephen Lashley, who said the programme would start on Sunday, September 25, at the Barbados Cadet Camp site at Paragon, Christ Church.

"At the end of their training, the participants would have gained exposure to the world of work training, some would have been hired, some obtained [Caribbean Examinations Council passes] CXCs and gained entry to educational and training institutions," Mr. Lashley pointed out.

During the first phase of the programme, which will run for three months, the trainees will be exposed to a number of areas, including academics, sports, cultural arts, counselling and arts and craft programmes.

The Skills segment of the programme will run from January to April 2012, while the Job Experience component will go from April to September 2012. Those trainees are expected to graduate in September 2012.
