Prime Minister Freundel Stuart.(FP)??

Prime Minister Freundel Stuart and members of Cabinet will receive the final report on the Country Assessment of Living Conditions (CALC) tomorrow, Thursday, March 21, from officials of the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB).

The main objective of the CALC study was to assess the current conditions affecting Barbadians.?? The data obtained is viewed as critical for Barbados to identify up-to-date policies, strategies, action programmes and projects that would reduce the extent and severity of poverty in Barbados, using what is described as an "evidence-based" approach. The preceding poverty study was carried out by the Inter-American Development Bank in 1996.

It also sought to clearly identify the poor and assess the type and magnitude of poverty currently being experienced in the island as well as thoroughly analyse its causes.

The CALC study was funded in part by CDB and undertaken by a Team of Consultants from the Sir Arthur Lewis Institute of Social and Economic Studies.
