The establishment of a framework to the protection of Traditional knowledge, Traditional Cultural Expressions and Genetic Resources in the region will be the focus of a two-day consultation hosted by the Corporate Affairs and Intellectual Property Office (CAIPO) in association with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).

It will take place on Monday, May 13, and Tuesday, May 14 between 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. in the training room, 3rd floor Baobab Towers, Warrens, St. Michael.

According to an official at CAIPO: "The project was funded by the WIPO following a request to the organisation by Regional Ministers with responsibility for Intellectual Property for assistance in the development of an appropriate framework for the protection of the region."

The official further added that in this regard, a working group was constituted with responsibility for undertaking research, raising awareness as well as conducting fact finding missions and consultations with governments, non-governmental organisations; public and private sector stakeholders and indigenous and local communities.????

The two-day meeting will, therefore, serve to inform participants about the regional project, its goals as well as the options that are available for the protection of our traditional knowledge.
