There’s a call for corporate Barbados to continue its support of local schools.

Speaking at the annual Speech-Day and Prize Giving Ceremony of the Coleridge and Parry School, Minister of Education and Human Resource Development, Ronald Jones urged the private sector to be pro-active in its support of the educational system.

“Your donations at this time are welcome, but we at the Ministry know that you can be sponsors in other ways as well. Provide opportunities for students to get some hands-on experience by working in your business, provide resource persons who can come into the schools to interact and share ideas with students, continue to sponsor and reward innovative ideas which come out of our schools,” he stressed.

Minister Jones also highlighted the importance of education in the context of the international economic crisis. “We therefore need those with vision, to be the stewards in the forefront.  But we cannot expect the Ministry to undertake this responsibility by itself. We are going to need a four-pronged approach in which we forge stronger ties with the school, the home and the community, if we are to succeed in making Barbados stronger,” he said.
