With this year’s Agrofest fast approaching agriculturalists, householders and school children are being invited to register early for the range of competitions being staged as part of the extravaganza.

According to Exhibits Coordinator, Saunjean Cutting, while registration forms had already been sent out to past competitors, first time entrants would need to call the Agrofest Secretariat in order to obtain theirs.

Noting that the sheep competition was extremely popular in 2008, Ms. Cutting said “special interest is also being shown in the Kitchen Garden Competition.

“Last year was the first year for this competition and the level of interest was inspiring – so we are expecting a far greater level of participation among householders and schools this year.  Generally, we expect the competitions to be more competitive, and interested persons should hasten to get in their entry forms so that they can qualify,” she advised.

Participants entering the Kitchen Garden Competition, which will be open to householders and schools, may enter both garden beds and container gardens.
In terms of the craft competition, both amateurs and professionals are being invited to enter, and competitors are reminded that they must use local materials in order to win.

The other competitions include: the Milking Cow Competition; Dairy & Beef Show; Sheep, Goat, Rabbit and Pig Shows and the Fruit and Vegetable Competition.
The registration deadline for all competitions is Friday, January 30, 2009.
