The National Conservation Commission (NCC) is urging environmental groups, schools, community organisations, service clubs, government agencies and private individuals, to register early for the upcoming Environmental Community Walk.

Slated to take place on World Environment Day, Saturday, June 5, from 6:00 a.m., under the theme: ???Stepping Towards a Greener Barbados’, the walk will see 11 groups traversing simultaneously along separate routes across the island, each culminating at an NCC-managed beach facility.

The St. Michael route will run from the NCC’s Codrington Headquarters to Browne’s Beach, while the St. James route runs from Husbands to Folkestone Park and Marine Reserve.

Participants in St. Peter will travel from the Speightstown Esplanade to Folkestone Park, while those in St. Lucy will set off from St. Lucy’s Parish Church to River Bay.

In St. Andrew, walkers will set off from Belleplaine to Bathsheba, while participants in St. Joseph will walk from the District "F" Police Station to Bathsheba.

The St. Thomas leg of the walk will start at the Natural Heritage Department and culminate at Folkestone Park, while the St. John segment will go from the Gall Hill Recreational Park to Bath Beach.

St. George residents will travel from the St. George Parish Church to Browne’s Beach, while their St. Philip counterparts will walk from the King George V Memorial Park to Foul Bay. The Christ Church route will start at the Oistins Fish Market and end at Silver Sands Beach.
