Camp Transition will be held at The St. Michael School from Tuesday, August 8 to Monday, August 14, 2017. (FP)

Camp Transition is on again at The St. Michael School from Tuesday, August 8, to Monday, August 14, during the week days only.

This year, however, the camp will cater to two groups – junior and senior campers – to equip them from orientation to graduation and beyond.

The junior campers will comprise children who are transitioning from primary to secondary school, and this is intended to help build their confidence while jumpstarting them with techniques for overall success.

There will also be a heavy focus on life skill development to help campers overcome the social, physical, academic and emotional challenges that are commonly experienced by students new to secondary school life.

Senior campers will be part of the first Career Success Camp, which will comprise students who have already spent two or more years at secondary school. This camp will, therefore, target children entering third form to sixth form.

The emphasis for senior campers will be on career planning to give campers a sense of direction through career testing and point them towards the path of success in their respective subjects, skills and careers.

Camp Transition 2017 is also intended to ease the transition process for parents and guardians, helping them to build a healthy home-school partnership.

Therefore, as an added bonus, there will be a free seminar, dubbed the Parents’ Empowerment Seminar, on Tuesday, August 15, at The St. Michael School from 4.30 to 8.30 p.m. Common challenges encountered by parents and children at the different transitional points throughout secondary school will be explored and techniques to overcome these will be shared.

Registration for Camp Transition and the Parents’ Empowerment Seminar will be held on Thursday, July 27; Friday, July 28; and on Thursday, August 3, at The St. Michael School, Martindale’s Road, St. Michael, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Each camper will receive a copy of the book Entering Secondary School: A Survival Kit For Students With Helpful Tips For Parents, authored by camp co-coordinators, Margaret Grant and Shauntée Walters, along with other relevant resources. Other persons wishing to purchase the book can also contact the authors.

For further information, parents and guardians may call Mrs. Grant or Mrs. Walters, at 250-1960 and/or 238-9264, respectively. They may also send an e-mail to smootheasytransitions@gmail.com.
