Canadian Governor General, The Right Honourable David Johnston (FP)

Canadian Governor General (GG) His Excellency, The Right Honourable David Johnston, is expected in Barbados on a working visit from April 29 to 30.

As part of that visit he will attend a panel discussion on Monday, April 30, at the Barbados Community College (BCC), "Eyrie", Howells, Cross Road, St. Michael.

The topic for discussion is The Contribution of Community Colleges to Employability and Economic Prosperity. The important sub-themes are: The Importance of targeted training for employability and The Importance of the Transferability of Credentials from Country to Country and Region to Region/ International Programs.??

Discussion gets under way at 2:45 p.m. in the Liberal Arts Auditorium, following a tour by the Canadian GG and his delegation of the BCC’s Portfolio Exhibition in the Fine Arts Building of the College.

Panellists will include Principal of the BCC, Gladstone Best; Executive Director of the Technical Vocational Education and Training Council, Harold Eastmond; President of the Association of Canadian Community Colleges, Canada, Jim Knight; President of the Canadian Bureau of International Education, Karen McBride; and Chief Executive Officer, Polytechnics Canada, Nobina Robinson. The Moderator will be Registrar of The Caribbean Examinations Council, Dr. Didacus Jules.

Chairman of the BCC, Stephen Broome will give welcome remarks while His Excellency will address the assembly for 10 minutes.?? Closing remarks at the end of the panel discussion will come from Minister of Education and Human Resource Development, Ronald Jones.
