Canada’s Governor General, The Right Honourable David Johnston (FP)

Canada’s Governor General (GG) His Excellency, The Right Honourable David Johnston, will pay a working visit to Barbados, from April 29 to 30. He will be accompanied by his wife Sharon, several government officials, education and business leaders.

He will arrive at the Grantley Adams International Airport on Sunday, April 29, at 3:00 p.m. During the first leg of the visit, on Sunday, April 29, the Canadian GG will tour the Bellairs Research Institute, in Folkestone, St. James, beginning at 5:30 p.m.

On Monday, April 30, the second and final day of his visit, His Excellency will call on his Barbadian counterpart, acting Governor-General, Elliot Belgrave at Government House at 10:00 a.m. One hour later, he will hold bilateral talks with Prime Minister Freundel Stuart at Ilaro Court.

Later in the day at noon, the Governor General will be the guest of honour at a networking luncheon with government officials and representatives from business and academic communities.

However, a highlight of the visit will take place when he journeys to the Barbados Community College (BCC), where he is expected to underline the growing linkages that exist between Canada and the Caribbean particularly in education, trade and prosperity at the start of a panel discussion.?? The visit is slated to get under way at 2:00 p.m. with a tour of the BCC Portfolio exhibition by the Canadian GG and his delegation.

The working visit to Barbados will conclude with a reception of government officials, private sector representatives, members of the Barbados Defence Force and other friends of Canada at Barbados Defence Force’s Headquarters, St. Ann’s Fort, The Historic Garrison, at 4:00 p.m.

Following his visit to Barbados, the Canadian Governor General travels to Trinidad and Tobago.
