Education Officer at the Barbados Museum, Peggy McGeary, points out one of the displays to Minister of Culture and Community Spirit in Canada, Lindsay Blackett

Alberta’s Minister of Culture and Community Spirit, Lindsay Blackett, took time from his official visit last week to learn more about this country’s rich history and culture.

The Canadian official visited the Barbados Museum and Historical Society at St. Ann’s Garrison, St. Michael, where he was given a brief history of the department and toured several of the galleries and exhibitions on display.

Mr. Blackett was also presented with several of the museum’s publications by Director, Alissandra Cummins, who also informed him of her department’s 75th anniversary activities and outreach programme.

The Minister was accompanied on his tour by the Museum’s Education Officer, Peggy McGeary, and Marketing Officer, Christine Skeete. He said he was impressed by the artifacts on display, particularly the historical paintings and the exhibits in the African Gallery.

Recently, during a courtesy call with his Barbadian counterpart, Steve Blackett, the two discussed the possibility of developing a visual arts exchange between the Barbados Museum and Historical Society and several Canadian museums.
