Matters pertaining to trade and investment, education, financial services and building upon the already strong relationship that exists between Barbados and Canada were the focal points of a recent courtesy call when the Canadian Minister of State of Foreign Affairs, Peter Kent called on the Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs, Christopher Sinckler and Minister of International Transport, George Hutson, at the Ministry’s Culloden Road headquarters.
Emphasising the close ties which the two countries share, Minister Sinckler stressed that Canada is the region’s largest partner especially in the area of banking.
In turn, the Canadian envoy stated that the two nations shared similar values and concerns and he offered his congratulations to the acting Minister on the recent opening of the Barbadian Embassy in Havana.
In addition, Minister Hutson touched on the decline in tourist arrivals from Quebec over the years and expressed a desire to rekindle that particular market.
Mr. Kent was in Barbados to deliver a lecture at the Errol Barrow Centre for Creative Imagination entitled: "The Caribbean and Canada: Partners in the Americas". tblackman@barbados.gov.bb
