Educators from across the region, parts of South America and Africa will converge at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre next week to attend the 6th Conference of the Caribbean Area Network for Quality Assurance in Tertiary Education (CANQATE).

The three-day meeting, which will be held from Tuesday, October 6, to Thursday, October 8, is being organised by the Barbados Accreditation Council (BAC), and forms part of the activities to commemorate October as Education Month.

A pre-conference workshop will be held on Tuesday, October 6, entitled "Building a High Quality Self-study Report".?? It will be facilitated by Professor Donald Hanna, of the Educational Communications (Distance Education), University of Wisconsin-Extension in the United States.

Plenary sessions will begin the following day, Wednesday, October 7. The first one will be held under the theme "Balancing Quality and Quantity: The Global Challenge for Tertiary Education", and will be facilitated by Immediate Past President of the International Network for Quality Assurance Agencies in Higher Education, Dr. Richard Lewis.

The second meeting will focus on "Perceptions of Tertiary Educational Providers on the Barbados Accreditation Council’s Registration Process", and will be chaired by Executive Director of the BAC Valda Alleyne and Accreditation Officer Sharon Thomas-Alleyne.

On the final day, conference attendees will examine issues related to "Balancing Quality and Quantity in Tertiary Education: The Caribbean Challenge" under the direction of Deputy Principal at the University of the West Indies, Open Campus at Cave Hill, Professor Vivienne Roberts.

The last session will be on "Assuring Quality Tertiary Educational Provision in the Caribbean: The Way Forward", facilitated by President of CANQATE and Executive Director of the University Council of Jamaica, Dr. Ethley London.??
