Students of the St. Michael School, in Martindale’s Road, are expected to get a feel for careers in the Health Ministry when employees at the Winston Scott Polyclinic participate in the school’s career showcase, on Monday, June 21.

Several departments at the polyclinic will highlight their roles and functions and offer insight into their various disciplines and required study programmes. These include the Environmental Health Department, Medicine, Dental, Nursing, Nutrition and Dietetics, Pharmacy, Medical Records and Laboratory Technology.

"A key objective of the career showcase will be to assist students in understanding the relationship between the subjects they are currently pursuing and careers in health," said Guidance Counsellor, Margaret Grant.

She added that it would also prove "a useful end-of-term activity" to keep the students’ minds occupied.

The career showcase, which targets second through to fifth formers, will also place emphasis on the important role of mathematics in careers in the health sector.

It starts at 9:30 a.m. and runs until 2:00 p.m. Principal of the St. Michael School, Shelton Perkins will deliver welcome remarks, while Principal Environmental Health Officer at the Winston Scott Polyclinic, William Richards will address the students on matters relating to environmental health. jgill@barbados.gov.bb
