Caribbean academics, students and arts enthusiasts will get the opportunity to exchange ideas on the way forward for the Arts, when the 2nd Biennial Caribbean Educative Arts Festival is held next month.
The workshops will be held from Friday, October 15, to Friday, October 22, at the Errol Barrow Centre for Creative Imagination (EBCCI), University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus, the Barbados Community College (BCC) and the National Cultural Foundation (NCF), starting at 9:00 a.m. each day.
Under the theme: "Inward Stretch: Outward Reach." Celebrating our Ancestors: Inspiring our Youth, the forum will highlight the importance of honouring regional legends and icons and promote greater collaboration among teachers, art educators and students.
The conference, initiated in 2007 by the Department of Creative and Festival Arts at the University of the West Indies, St. Augustine Campus, is a collaboration among the BCC’s Division of Fine Arts, the EBCCI, the Caribbean Examinations Council and the NCF.
During the sessions, participants will be exposed to topics such as Playwriting; Traditional Jamaican Cultural Forms for Dance-making; Teaching Composition for Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) Music Teachers; Poetry for CSEC English ???A’ and ???B’ Teachers; and Dance Improvisation for CSEC Teachers.????
Conference Chairman, Yvonne Weekes, said the symposium was an indication of regional governments’ commitment to the future development of the creative industries.?? "It is hoped that the festival, through its workshops, presentation of academic papers and performances, would imbue the participants, to pay more attention to the Arts."
