Harrison’s Cave has been singled out as a beacon in this country and the region.
This was underlined by Minister of the Environment and Drainage, Dr. Denis Lowe, as he addressed a cocktail reception for staff of the Caves of Barbados Ltd. at Ilaro Court last Thursday as part of the 30th anniversary celebrations.
Identifying Harrison’s Cave as Barbados’, and indeed the region’s most exotic tourist attraction", he said the government of Barbados had done an "outstanding job" in investing in its development and recent redevelopment.
"Harrison’s Cave is a very unique ecosystem which combines tourism and the environment", he noted, and described it as part of "Barbados’ journey in becoming the greenest economy in the Caribbean and Latin America".
Dr. Lowe stated that government was committed to ensuring that all would be done to make sure the most and highest level of operation was accorded to at the attraction, which falls under the responsibility of the Ministry of the Environment and Drainage.
"We are partners both in financing and in the physical infrastructure and [the staff] will continue to do the very best that they can to make sure that Harrison’s Cave continues to rival any tourist attraction in the region," the Environment Minister said.
In addition, he showered praise on the staff whom he described as "very wonderful people who give outstanding service year round".
He congratulated the board, management and staff of Caves of Barbados Ltd. and Harrison’s Cave for reaching 30 years of operations. A journey he described as "just the beginning."
