The Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) will be the focus of a town hall meeting to be held at the Alexandra School, Queen’s Street, Speightstown, St. Peter on Thursday, June 13, beginning at 7:00 p.m.

The meeting is being hosted by the Bureau of Gender Affairs within the Ministry of Social Care, Constituency Empowerment and Community Development.

Women of all ages are especially encouraged to attend and learn about CEDAW and women’s human rights. Some of the themes which will be discussed are: Employment and Sources of Income; Reproductive Health and Rights; Violence and Crime including Human Trafficking; Participation in Decision-Making; Legislation and National Policies; Education; and Migration and Citizenship.

Members of the public are also invited to express their concerns and share their experiences. It is expected that these will be incorporated into Barbados’ 2000-2012 CEDAW Report, which is currently being compiled.????
