As Barbados continues to celebrate its jubilee year of Independence, the Bureau of Gender Affairs will be using the occasion to celebrate under the theme: 50 years of Gender and Development in Barbados.

The celebrations will begin with a look back at the National Commission of Enquiry on the Status of Women, which was convened by Government in 1977, to ???inquire into and report upon the Status of Women in Barbados??? in areas including citizenship, employment, health and education.

The Government of Barbados, the Bureau of Gender Affairs and the women and men who contributed to the development of gender equality, equity and social justice during the past 50 years will be highlighted.

Ten (10) Barbadian women and men will be selected and each recognized for the significant contributions they have made to gender justice in Barbados. This will be done in the form of a documentary which will be distributed to schools, libraries, and the community.

Persons interested in obtaining more information can contact the Bureau of Gender Affairs at 310-2105.??
