The National Disabilities Unit (NDU), in collaboration with the Barbados Council for the Disabled (BCD), and other affiliates, will host a number of activities during the month of March in celebration of Month of the Disabled.

The month will be celebrated under the theme: Here Today, Here to Stay; Come, Get to Know Us!

The activities continue this Saturday, March 7, with a dinner hosted by the National United Society of the Blind (NUSB) at the Hilton Barbados, at 7:30 p.m.

The following Monday, March 9, at 11:00 a.m., the Multiple Sclerosis Society will hold an Accessibility Walk, beginning on Broad Street and ending at the Parliament Buildings.

The NDU will also be coordinating a Community Expo, which will provide an opportunity for persons with disabilities to be included in community-based activities, and also promote their services and products and display their talents.

It will be held on Thursday, March 12, on the grounds of the National Union of Public Workers, Dalkeith, St. Michael, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

The expo, which will carry the theme: All Inclusive Society: Empowering Persons with Disabilities, will feature several displays on arts and craft, aids-to-daily living, and assistive devices and technologies.

There will also be demonstrations on chair caning, mop making, jewellery-making and upholstery and flower arranging, as well as motivational sessions and health checks. The following day, Friday, March 13, the Queen Elizabeth Hospital will stage a Glaucoma Health Expo from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Following this, on Saturday, March 14, the Barbados Organisation of Parents of the Disabled will conduct a Sensory Integration session at 5:30 p.m. at the Centre for the Blind and Deaf at St Paul???s Avenue, Beckles Road, St. Michael.

The following week on Friday, March 20, the Learning Centre will hold a sponsored walk, beginning at the Centre at Orange Hill, St. James, and ending at Folkstone Park in the same parish.

The Centre???s Sports Day will also be held on Thursday, March 26 and Friday, March 27 at the Standard Playing Field, Orange Hill, St. James, from 9:30 a.m. on both days.

The NUSB will hold its Fun Day on Saturday, March 21, on the grounds of the Young Men???s Progressive Club, Bayville, St. Michael, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and the Barbados Special Olympics National Games will be held at the National Stadium on Tuesday, March 24.

On Friday, March 27, the BCD will re-launch its website at Harambee House, The Garrison, St. Michael, at 10:00 a.m. The month of activities will come to a close when the Learning Centre holds its fundraising cruise on the MC Buccaneer on Saturday, March 28, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m.
