The contribution of fisher folk to the sector will be brought to the fore when they host a week of activities to mark Fisherman’s Day, which will be observed on Monday, June 29.

The events are being staged by the Weston Fisher Folk, in association with the Power Builders’ Action Council under the theme: "Sustainable Fisheries for Food Security."

The week will start with a service on Sunday, June 28, at 8:00 a.m. at the Garden’s Church of God, The Garden, St. James.

On Tuesday, June 30, the St. James North District Emergency Organisation and representatives from the Fisheries Division and Weston Fire Station will host a Health & Safety Talk. The topic is ???Hurricane Preparedness and Boat Safety’ and will be held at the Weston Community Centre, beginning at 7:00 p.m.

The following day, Wednesday, July 1, the Weston Community Centre will hold a "Proper Pork" Lime, as well as a games night, beginning at 7:00 p.m. at the Centre.

The highlight of the evening on Friday, July 3, will be a fish fry and karaoke session starting at 7:00 p.m, also to take place at the Community Centre.

The next day, Saturday, July 4, a flea market and fun day will take place at the Weston Community Centre from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.

The week will culminate with a closing ceremony and an awards presentation to honour fisher folk.?? It will take place at the Weston Community Centre, beginning at 5:00 p.m.

In addition, persons are asked to note that on Fisherman’s Day, the various fish markets across the island will have a Customer Appreciation Day and patrons are invited.
