Barbados’ 46th anniversary of independence celebrations will culminate with a spectacular ceremonial parade at the historic Garrison Savannah on Friday, November 30, beginning at 8:00 a.m.
This was disclosed by Lieutenant Colonel Ricardo Vickers of the Barbados Defence Force, as he spoke with members of the media today at the Ministry of Family, Culture, Sports and Youth, about plans for staging this year’s parade.
He said: "The key elements of the parade will be the arrival of his Excellency the Governor General and the inspection [of the troops]; the march past of the units on parade; a display by the Barbados Boy Scouts Association, and the march to Bridgetown by the participating troops on parade.
"It is significant to note that there will be a display by a detachment drawn from the Barbados Boy Scouts Association and this display will last for between five and seven minutes, and it will showcase the talent of the young scouts …I also want to point out that there will also be a march past by a foreign detachment – a 24-man strong platoon from a ship called the Royal Fleet Auxiliary Argus. This is a British Navy ship which will be touring Barbados as part of courtesy call visits".
This year’s parade will feature 1,100 persons representing 14 uniformed organisations and they will be under the direction of Parade Commander Major Glyne Grannum.
In the event that the Garrison Savannah is waterlogged, the parade will move to the Bridgetown Port.
