The National HIV Hotline service, located at the Vashti Inniss Empowerment Centre, has been decommissioned due to a drastic reduction in calls since 2008.

The hotline, which was in operation since August 1990, was designed to provide a telephone information referral and educational service and played a vital role in the dissemination of HIV information to the general public.??

According to a Ministry Official, there has been a paradigm shift in how the public is sourcing information on HIV and Sexually Transmitted Infections, as facts were now readily available from other credible sources.

The Ministry of Health has apologised to the public for any inconvenience that this may cause and thanks the volunteers who manned the hotline and gave a sterling contribution to advancing HIV education in Barbados.
