Two conditions governing the importation of used/re-conditioned vehicles have now been removed.
According to the Ministry of Commerce, the first condition removed is that which states that ???each importer must be the authorised distributor/dealer for the make of the vehicle imported, in order to safeguard the consumer against difficulties in obtaining spare parts and efficient after sales services???.
The second condition that has been removed, states: ???Each importer must maintain an adequate stock of genuine spare parts to service the vehicle and have technically trained staff capable of carrying out efficient repairs???.
Under the new conditions, used/reconditioned vehicles being imported must be structurally and mechanically sound and in generally good condition. They must be right-handed drive of not more than four years old, and with an odometer reading of under 50,000 km. Each importer must offer a warranty on each reconditioned vehicle for at least six months, or 6,000 km.
In addition, the imported vehicles should be accompanied by a certificate of road worthiness from an authorised agent in the country of origin; and the vehicles must be fitted with new tyres.??Further information may be obtained by contacting Acting Director of Commerce and Consumer Affairs, Jeffrey Kellman, at 437-3570/52.
