Philanthropist, Sharon Bellamy-Thompson is now in a better position to feed more Barbadians in need, thanks to the efforts of the We Share???We Care Committee of Barbados??? High Commission in London.

Mrs. Bellamy-Thompson, a well-known fish vendor in the Cheapside Public Market, today received a barrel of food items and personal care products from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, on behalf of the We Share???We Care Committee.

Acting Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Simone Rudder, thanked Mrs. Bellamy-Thompson for her generosity and humanitarian effort and said the London-based Committee embraced one of Barbados??? key foreign policy objectives, namely, the strengthening of relations between Barbadians at home and in the diaspora.

???So the ability of the High Commission to gather the food and personal care items, working through the Barbadians in London and to be able to present them to you is an important and significant example of the work that we do in reaching into the communities of the diaspora and bringing it back here to Barbados,??? she remarked.

Mrs. Bellamy-Thompson, in expressing gratitude to members of the We Share???We Care Committee, said she had been providing the less fortunate with breakfast and lunch for the past 13 years.

Noting that it was a calling she had from a young age, she said: ???There are people who really need to be taken care of. You don???t have to be rich to help others.???

She also explained that she was guided by her church ???to feed others??? and stressed ???there was no way she could see others hungry and leave them alone and especially here in my Barbados.???

She also thanked Hilton Barbados, Hanschell Inniss Ltd, BICO Ltd and her friend Durlene Holder whom she said ???always surprised her with boxes of food stuff.??? ???I didn???t expect that my charity would have gone so far!??? she exclaimed.

She thanked God for giving her strength to do the job, noting that it was not easy since she had to rise early, cook and then head off to her full-time job at Cheapside.

The We Share???We Care Committee comprises members of staff of the Barbados High Commission in London. Its main objective is to assist needy communities in Barbados, especially children and the underprivileged.

The Committee saw the humanitarian initiatives which were being undertaken by Mrs. Bellamy-Thompson in offering meals and care to the elderly and underprivileged, through her Fishers of Men charity, and decided to make the donation.

The We Share???We Care Committee is also planning to provide school supplies to children in Barbados in the coming year.
