Members of the public will get an opportunity to exercise while contributing financially to worthy causes, when the Barbados Defence Force (BDF) stages the Have A Heart Charity 5K Walk and Run on Saturday, August 6.

The walk and run will begin at 6:00 a.m. at the BDF Headquarters, St. Ann’s Fort; travel along Bay Street, Wharf Road, Princess Alice Highway; and climax on Spring Garden Highway.

Registration for adults will be $30; $15 for children under 12 years; and $25 per person for groups of 10 or more. There will also be a corporate challenge and teams of five persons who are full-time employees of a company are eligible to enter. For additional information or queries about the charity walk and run, the public should call 536-2590 or 836-3160.

A number of mobile boot camps are being held by the BDF’s training instructors to assist those persons who want to exercise before the Have a Heart event. Training sessions will continue on Thursday, July 28, at Weiser’s Beach, Spring Garden Highway; and Thursday, August 4, at the Garrison Savannah, beginning at 5:00 p.m. each day.

The objectives of the charity event are to raise funds to assist with the granting of wishes to children between the ages of 2 and 16 who have been diagnosed with life-threatening medical conditions and /or are terminally ill; to raise funds for the BDF’s Morale Welfare & Recreation activities for children and families; and to encourage physical fitness and healthy lifestyles among Barbadians.
