The Ministry of Health has joined forces with the Barbados Drug Service and the Ministry of Education to launch an intervention programme aimed at combatting childhood obesity.

A series of interactive mini-lectures, targeted at primary school students, starts tomorrow, Thursday, May 12, at the St. Peter Parish Church, Speightstown, St. Peter. The theme will be: Childhood Obesity ??? Prevention and Intervention.

The sessions, which involve role-play and educational games, will be conducted by nutritionist Brian Payne; community health educator, Sade Leon-Folkes; and Acting Health Promotion Officer, Donna Barker.

The sessions continue on May 19, at the Christ Church Parish Church Hall, Church Hill, Christ Church; on May 26, at the Collymore Rock Church of the Nazarene, Collymore Rock, St. Michael; on June 2, at Western Light Nazarene Church, Oxnards, St. James; and on June 9, at the St. John Parish Church, St. John. They will begin at 1:00 p.m. each day.
