Drumming, dance and folk songs will be featured high on the agenda, when some 40 children get the opportunity to exhibit their cultural side at this year’s annual one-week residential Project S.O.F.T. (Safeguarding Our Future Today), summer camp programme hosted by the National Council on Substance Abuse (NCSA).

The programme, which is currently being held at the Marian Retreat House, Verdun, St. John, will feature a number of creative sessions as well as lessons in conflict resolution and decision making.

According to Community Programme Officer at the NCSA, Makeada Greenidge, "the camp, now in its 10th year is targeting young people who completed the Common Entrance Examination, with the view of preparing them for entry into secondary school by discussing the multiple life challenges that will confront them.

"This year, the theme is ???Know the Facts…Make the Choice’and we want to address such issues like: self-esteem building, substance abuse, as well as hygiene and daily life skills," she explained.

The camp will run until Sunday, August 28.??
