Forty children will get the opportunity to benefit from valuable skills and life lessons, when the National Council on Substance Abuse (NCSA) hosts its annual one-week residential camp, entitled PROJECT S.O.F.T. (Safeguarding Our Future Today).

The summer programme will be held at the Marian Retreat House, Verdun, St. John, from August 20 to 26.

According to Community Programme Officer at the NCSA, Makeada Greenidge, the programme, now in its 11th year, will target young people who recently completed the Common Entrance Examination.?? It is designed to prepare the children for entry into secondary school by discussing the multiple life challenges that will confront them.

"This year, the theme for the camp is You! Me! We Choose to Make Barbados Drug-Free, and we want to address such issues as: Conflict resolution, anger management, self-esteem building and substance abuse, as well as hygiene and daily life skills," she explained.

The deadline for registration is Friday, July 27, and further information may be obtained from the NCSA at telephone number 429-6272 or email mgreenidge@ncsa.org.bb.??
