The prize-winning art pieces by children who participated in the Child Care Board’s art competition for Child Month will be on display in public spaces around the island for the rest of the year.

Board member, Kevon Henry, revealed this to the winners during a prize-giving ceremony at the Board’s headquarters, Cheapside, St. Michael, last Friday.

He said that the list of venues will be disclosed at a later date so they would have the opportunity to view their artwork in the spaces.

Mr. Henry thanked the entrants for their participation and asked them to enter again next year, when he promised a bigger competition embracing other artistic media such as prose, poetry and jewellery-making.

The competition, which was open to children aged 7 to 18, had as its theme: Celebrating The Champion In You.

In the 16 to 18 age group, Michael Harris of the Seventh-Day Adventist School took first place, his schoolmate Amari Griffith was second and Jovanna Gustave of the Daryll Jordan Secondary School was third.

In the 12 to 15 category, Elann Lewis of Deighton Griffith School copped the first prize, Kiyoka Sandiford of Springer Memorial School was second and DeShawnte Yarde of Combermere School was third.

Afia Greenidge of the Seventh-Day Adventist School took the first prize in the seven to 11 category. Storm Maloney of Queen’s College was second and Bethany Everett, a home-schooled student, was third.

Prizes included cell phones, tablets and Cave Shepherd cash.
