Deepening the diplomatic relationship between Barbados and Chile, as well as establishing air links to improve tourist traffic between the two countries, were among the areas discussed, when Chilean Ambassador, Patricio Pradel Elgueta, paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Freundel Stuart.
During the meeting at Government Headquarters on Bay Street, yesterday, the Prime Minister expressed a desire to strengthen the relationship, while calling for a finalisation of the proposed double taxation agreement with Chile.
In the area of airlift, Ambassador Pradel Elgueta gave a commitment to discussing the issue at a higher level as a means of increasing business opportunities for both countries.
The two officials also touched on a number of topical issues including cooperation in the area of student exchange programmes and the recent rescue of the Chilean miners.
Ambassador Pradel Elgueta conveyed condolences to Prime Minister Stuart on the passing of late Prime Minister David Thompson and both sides said they were looking forward to building and strengthening the good relations that existed between the two Organisation of American States members.
