The premium that China places on its bilateral relationship with Barbados was reiterated recently when China’s Ambassador to Barbados, Wei Qiang, paid a courtesy call on International Transport Minister, George Hutson, at his Warrens, St. Michael offices.

Ambassador Wei, who stressed the "high priority" which his Government had placed on friendship and cooperation with Barbados, observed that while certain strides had been accomplished under the existing agenda, "there was still a lot of work remaining to be done".

In pledging Government’s commitment to the relationship, Minister Hutson also discussed the scope for functional co-operation between the two countries in the area of tourism, noting that Government was very interested in tourism opportunities there.

Supporting the prospect of tourism cooperation, Ambassador Wei said this was important and promising, given the island’s beauty and attractiveness.

Commenting about the obvious geographical difference between China and Barbados, the officials agreed that expanded airline routes virtually made the world "smaller."
