Outgoing Chinese Ambassador, Xu Hong, has praised the significant progress made between Barbados and China after more than three decades of relations.

He expressed this view recently, during a farewell call on Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Senator Maxine McClean, at the Ministry on Culloden Road, St. Michael.

Ambassador Xu said both countries had attached great importance to the bilateral relationship and were happy with the progress made at the economic, social and cultural levels.

In turn, Senator McClean described the success that some businesses have had by visiting China and the study opportunities for Barbadians, as testimony to the long-standing relationship.

She stated that it was important to build on the existing relationship and looked forward to its strengthening, not only in the areas of education and economic activities, but with people-to-people exchanges which she described as critical to the understanding of both countries and cultures.

Barbados and China established diplomatic relations on May 30, 1977.
