Members of the public will soon be treated to the melodic sounds of the Good-Will Military Band of the People’s Liberation Army of the People’s Republic of China.

The Chinese Embassy, in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, will be hosting a free concert featuring the band next Wednesday, August 15, at the Frank Collymore Hall, beginning at 7:00 p.m. The bands of the Royal Barbados Police Force, the Barbados Cadet Corps and the Barbados Defence Force will also perform.

Two days later, on Friday, August 17, a performance will be held at Oistins Bay Gardens, Christ Church, from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m. The public is invited to attend both events.

The Military Band of the People’s Liberation Army of China was established in January 1948 and, over the years, it has assembled a repertoire of more than 2,000 works and produced hundreds of wind music recordings.

Twenty members of the military band are in the island as guests of the Barbados Defence Force and they have been engaging in a number of cultural activities, including entertaining children attending this year’s National Summer Camp Programme.
