CHRISTMAS IN THE CITY DECEMBER 20 AND 21

Barbadians going about their various Christmas activities in Bridgetown will be treated to a series of musical renditions during the programme, ‘Christmas in the City’, next Wednesday and Thursday, December 20 and 21.

Government’s Community Projects Coordinator, Mark Williams, said various leading choirs and bands will be performing at Jubilee Gardens on the dates mentioned.

“On Wednesday, December 20, beginning at 6:00 p.m., the Royal Barbados Police Force Band will entertain city patrons until 7:00 p.m., when three leading groups: Cable & Wireless, Queen Elizabeth Hospital and Black Rock Polyclinic diabetic choirs will perform,” Williams noted.

On Thursday, December 21, the Barbados Defence Force band will be featured under the direction of Lieutenant Alfred Taylor from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Prime Minister Owen Arthur and Senior Minister, Dame Billie Miller, will be in attendance.

Mr. Williams noted that “this year Christmas in the City will be one with a difference. Not only will the choirs be singing Christmas carols, but the audience will be encouraged to sing along.

Also the presence of the Police and Defence Force bands in the city would be reminiscent of what happened many years ago when village choirs would have travelled through their communities and around Bridgetown entertaining people as they shopped.”

He added that the refurbished Jubilee Gardens was an “ideal location for giving young people and those who have never witnessed our old time traditions, a chance to enjoy and be part of that Christmas feeling”.
