The Community Independence Celebrations Secretariat (CICS) today received a dividend of profits made from a special edition Digicel Independence pre-paid phone-card which was in circulation from mid-October this year.

A $20,000 cheque was handed over to Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office, Rev. Joseph Atherley by Digicel Head of Marketing, Faye Gill, at government headquarters.

Rev. Atherley expressed thanks on behalf of the CICS noting that “Digicel’s contribution enhanced the celebrations of independence and made a mark at the community level”.

He added that if the sense of nationalism and the spirit of independence did not reach across all of Barbados, then “we cannot say that we have truly achieved what we set out to do”.

Ms. Faye Gill congratulated the CICS, planning committee, adding that “Digicel was delighted to be a part of the initiative”.
