Attorney General, Adriel Brathwaite, will officially launch the Citizen Security Facilities Project tomorrow, Friday, January 29, in Hastings, Christ Church, near the existing Hastings Police Station, at 10:00 a.m.
The initiative takes the form of a multi-million construction development projectaimed at enhancing the security of all residents, citizens and visitors to Barbados.
In addition to building a new Hastings/Worthing Police Station in Christ Church, the project will also see the construction of a new police station and Magistrates??? Court at Cane Garden, St. Thomas; repairs to the old male barracks at the Central Police Station; and a state-of-the-art gym.
It will also involve the refurbishment of the former Black Rock Police Station for the use as the Truth Verification and Family Conflicts Unit; the relocation of the Police, Post and Welfare Offices to the Elaine Scantlebury Home, in Bellplaine, St. Andrew; and a satellite office for the Department of Emergency Management.
Lawmen working in St. George are also expected to benefit from the construction of a new police station and Magistrates??? Court at Boarded Hall, St. George, while the former Registration Department will be refurbished to house the Criminal Investigations Department.
In addition, the Citizen Security Facilities Project will also involve the permanent relocation of the Drainage Division and Quantity Surveyors Section of the Ministry of Transport and Works to the former Barbados Water Authority Headquarters in The Pine, St. Michael.
Construction work will commence at Hastings/Worthing, Christ Church; Cane Garden, St. Thomas; and the Central and Black Rock Police Stations, on Monday, February 1.
