Barbadians are being encouraged to be a part of history this Saturday, March 15, when the Constitution River Redevelopment Project is officially launched, followed by an opening ceremony for the Church Village Green.

Those attending the launch should assemble at the Constitution River, opposite Queen???s Park at 4:00 p.m. There will be speeches by the Minister of Finance, Christopher Sinckler and Chief Executive Officer of the Barbados Tourism Investment Inc., Stuart Layne, while historian Dr. Karl Watson will take the audience on a brief historical journey of the Constitution River.

At the end, the officials will join members of the public as they stroll through Queen???s Park for the opening of Church Village Green at 5:00 p.m. Minister of Culture, Stephen Lashley, will deliver an address and there will be cultural presentations by Adrian Green, Pan in the Plaza Ensemble, the St. Michael???s Cathedral Youth Choir and the Barbados Landship.

The Church Village Project started in April 2013 and in addition to creating a green space in the City, an amphitheatre which seats just under 100 people has been added for lunchtime and evening activities. The Constitution River Redevelopment Project, on the other hand, was started in August 2012 with the aim of beautifying the environs and mitigating flooding there. Both projects were completed within budget.

Meanwhile, to facilitate the official opening of the Church Village Green, Church Street, The City, will be closed to vehicular traffic from 12:01 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 15.

Those persons attending the official opening of the park may turn right off Crumpton Street and drive down Polgreen Alley or turn left at Crumpton Street onto Garnett Street and they will be directed to the designated parking area.??The Barbados Tourism Investment Inc. and the Central Bank apologise for any inconvenience this closure may cause.
