The contribution of the civil aviation industry to Barbados??? present and future development will come under the microscope next week, during the Ministry of Tourism and International Transport???s Civil Aviation Consultation.

Under the theme: Civil Aviation and its Contribution to the Socio-Economic Development of Barbados, the event will be held on Wednesday, July 31, at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre, Two Mile Hill, St. Michael, starting at 9:00 a.m.

During the one-day consultation, participants from the public and private sectors, are expected to expound on a range of issues that would lead to the creation of an Aviation Policy to guide the present and future development of the industry.

Minister of Tourism and International Transport, Richard Sealy, will deliver the feature address and articulate the Ministry???s vision on the link between a modern aviation industry and the country???s economic development.

When participants get down to business in earnest, they will hear from key industry officials in the Ministry of Tourism and International Transport, the Barbados Tourism Authority; the Airlines Association of Barbados and the Travel Agents Association of Barbados; the Handling Agents of Barbados; the Barbados Tourism Investment Inc; and the Customs and Excise Department.

Each entity is expected to give well-researched presentations on how the industry may be enhanced as it related to the need for a national airline; hangarage; the establishment of a maintenenace repair and overhaul facility; the Airport Master Plan and its usage; and the benefits of a private aircraft registry.??
