Civil aviation will be in focus from Sunday, December 2, to Saturday, December 8, as the Civil Aviation Department hosts its annual week of activities.

The week will kick off with a church service at the St. Martin’s Anglican Church, St. Martin’s, St. Philip, on Sunday, December 2, beginning at 8:00 a.m., where Minister of International Business and International Transport, George Hutson, will deliver brief remarks.

On Wednesday, December 5, travellers will receive important travel tips from the Help Desk erected at the Grantley Adams International Airport (GAIA), from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m., and will focus on the theme: Travel Savvy Awareness.

The following day, Thursday, December 6, the Air Traffic Services Department will throw open its doors to members of the public from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m, so they can get an inside look at its operations.

On Friday, December 7, the Barbados-based department will join the rest of the world in celebrating International Civil Aviation Day under the theme Aviation: Our Reliable Connection to the World.

This will be marked by a tree planting ceremony at the St. Bartholomew’s Primary School, Parish Land, Christ Church by Minister Hutson at 9:30 a.m., and followed immediately by a flag raising ceremony at the GAIA at 10:30 a.m.

During the day there will also be a Career and Open Day at the GAIA and the Air Traffic Services Department. Entries from the Barbados Civil Aviation Department Secondary School competition will also be on exhibit.

The week of activities will culminate on Saturday, December 8, with a Fun Day at the Barbados Light Aeroplane Club, GAIA, Christ Church, from 10:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m. This Fun Day will feature a number of activities include zumba, line dancing and karaoke.
