Minister of the Environment, Water Resources and Drainage, Dr. Denis Lowe????

The days of piles of debris being left behind after the cleaning of drains, or weeding of roads will soon be a thing of the past.

This assurance has come from Minister of the Environment, Water Resources and Drainage, Dr. Denis Lowe. He said this was a matter of great concern to him, so much so, he had consulted with both the Director of the Drainage Division, Keith Barrow, and Minister of Transport and Works (MTW), John Boyce.

"They have agreed that there should be more collaboration between our ministries, so that when cleanings take place, vehicles would be available to get to these areas as quickly as possible. It is not only that it (debris) rushes back into the drains, but it is also bad for traffic and I think it is unsightly …

"Even in terms of when people weed at the side of the roads, I am always annoyed by the length of time that it sits there before it is moved and those are things that we are working on in an integrated way, to make sure that we give redress to those issues," Minister Lowe declared.

Speaking about the level of cooperation between his Ministry and MTW, in terms of the sharing of equipment and other areas, Dr. Lowe maintained that it continued to be at a high level.

"The collaboration is going well. I think that people recognise that it is one Barbados and it is the taxpayers’ money – it doesn’t matter where it is allocated. I think we all understand that we want to make Barbados better, and if we are going to do that, we have to do it as a collective effort," he said.
