The 22 persons who are currently undergoing the Regional Security System’s (RSS) Basic Seamanship Course will receive certificates this Friday, May 17, during a closing ceremony at the Barbados Coast Guard Base, HMBS PELICAN, Spring Garden, St. Michael.

It will begin at 9:00 a.m. and the RSS’ Deputy Executive Director, Major Horace Kirton, will deliver the feature address.

The participants were drawn from the Coast Guards or Police Marine Units of all RSS member states, except Antigua; and are currently being prepared for their role as Maritime Law Enforcement Officers in their respective agencies.

During the five-week training, they were exposed to Boat Handling, Maritime Law Enforcement, Personal Survival Techniques, Navigation, Disaster Preparedness, Fire Fighting and Damage Control, among others. Most of the classes had practical sessions after the theory.
