Despite a temporary relocation of the Clyde Gollop Night Shelter for Homeless Men from its Hindsbury Gap, St. Michael location, one local business has still seen it necessary to lend assistance in the improvement of that institution.

Dwellings Inc., a retailer of contemporary home furnishings, house wares and baby products, yesterday presented the National Assistance Board (NAB), which oversees the Shelter, with a number of items to be used towards its retrofitting.

Assistant Director of the NAB, Andrew Browne, thanked Managing Director of Dwellings, Luis Carrillo, for the donation of dinnerware, drink ware, storage containers and an ironing board, which he said would "enable [the NAB] to offer the homeless men quality service in a more pleasing and comfortable atmosphere".

He noted that the presentation was "consistent with the National Assistance Board’s effort at developing, or further intensifying, good working relationships with corporate Barbados, non-governmental organisations and other members of society".

Mr. Carrillo underscored the significance of supporting organisations which provide assistance to the more vulnerable groups of society, and stated that: "These organisations act as a foundation for many. It gives them the courage and motivation to start a new chapter in their lives, [and] to be productive…"

While the Clyde Gallop Shelter is undergoing repairs, its residents have been relocated to the Jorris Dunner Home in the Pine, St. Peter.
