Barbados will join the rest of the world in celebrating International Credit Union (ICU) Day on Thursday, October 17.

Since 1948, the Day has been marked each year on the third Thursday of this month.

The ultimate goal is to raise awareness about the work being undertaken by credit unions around the world and give members the opportunity to become more engaged.

To commemorate the occasion, the Co-operatives Department of the Ministry of Small Business, Entrepreneurship and Commerce will be holding its signature event, Co-op Mart, at the Church Village Green, Central Bank, St. Michael, on Saturday, October 26, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Aimed at promoting all co-operatives, (the financial ones known as credit unions as well as the non-financial ones), Co-op Mart will continue for two other Saturdays, namely November 16 and December 7.

Co-op Mart, a collaborative event of the Co-operatives Development Planning Committee and the Co-operatives Department, encourages patrons to come out and support small business persons and entrepreneurs, who will have on display quality products and services.

Members of the public are invited to attend and support Co-op Mart from October to December.
